THE HEDONISM IN MAN

If I tell you that I like pains, I must be telling a lie. If I tell you that I like suffering, I must be deceiving myself. If I tell you that I like going to school, I am deluding myself.

I must tell you that I don't like reading, I prefer to watch movies and sports. Yes, it is true because we like to watch pictures rather than to read a post. I prefer to go to games rather than doing manual labour...lols

A friend once said to me, "Bro I don't have time to read that long post, I cannot kill myself. I rather watch movies online than reading post. I know this one will also won't be read but I must write.

Yes, I rather prefer eating and drinking, enjoyoying myself than doing anything that will stress me. I prefer to board a bus rather than trekking. I know you too like same.

Pleasure is indeed intrinsic in man and this is why Epicurean pointed it out, " Pleasure is the chief or sole good in life. ..." But is it true?

The question what is then pleasure is very paramount. The relativist will say that pleasure is anything that makes one happy". Nevertheless, this isn't the issue here.

Is life all about pleasure? No is indeed the answer. Life is not a bed of roses but thorns. We must take pains and suffering. This is part of human nature: we must be sick, we must work or labour to eat, we must read and study to know, we must sometime trek for body fitness and health   issues. Yes we must do a lot of hard things to survive. Life is all about the survival of the fittest.

Trying to avoid pain and suffering, lead us to do all sort of evil deeds and this is why our society is becoming unliveable today: Kidnapping everywhere, rubbery and killings everywhere, embezzling of public fund is there, maltreatment of the poor mass is our daily bread, etc.

Remember, no cross no glory. The Igbo will say, "Onye gba ball, oracha oroma"--- he who plays the football will lick the orange. Suffering first then pleasure. DO NOT LET YOUR HEDONISTIC NATURE ELUDE YOU.
