Before 24th May, 2022, when Peter Obi is in PDP, governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike, has taken it upon himself to cajole Obi. In his words in many interviews, Peter Obi is a theoritical man and Nigeria now doesn't need theory but a mad man like him. He further said that Obi is weak and cannot take away power from the north. He asserted that it is only him that can take power from the northerners. Wike, positioned himself as a better candidate than Obi and said that Obi cannot win primaries in PDP where he is. He even went to Anambra and told them (delegates) that, they should not waste their votes trying to vote for Obi because since Peter Obi left APGA as a governor, he has never won election.
When Peter Obi resigned from PDP and joined Labour Party, in an interview with Channel Television on political issues, Wike, was asked how he feels that Obi has left PDP.
In the bid to answer the question, Wike said, “Those of us who have joined the party since 1998, who have never left this party because this party is in our blood, it doesn’t matter what problems we may have in the party we have to be inside it to settle the problems. So, Peter Obi leaving the party is not surprising to me. I know and he knows that there was no way he would have won the presidential primary".
In further details, Wike said, "The issue is that there must be integrity, there must be character. How can a man who had gone to all the states to tell them how he had been a trader, how his family has been trading, how everybody should support him, how he wore one pair of shoes, how he did not allow anybody to carry his bag, and all those things, win election".
The big question is, what will be of him, after all these cajoling of Peter Obi and he didn't win PDP primary presidential election? Could he even see face to see Peter Obi or would he go on his knees to beg for forgiveness. People from SE have criticised Wike, that he is not suppose to be talking all these bad about Obi since all of them are Igbo. Some even said that what is causing him(Wike) to react in that way is because he is feeling unsecured because of Obi's personality and reputation. Some people also compared his Political reputation with that of Obi and opined that politically, Obi as a governor, was better then Wike.
The South Lacks Solidarity
Inasmuch as Reno Omokri didn't set a good example of southern solidarity by supporting northerners, we cannot negate the fact of his statement about lack of solidarity by the South. It is really true when Reno said, "The South has a lot to learn from the genuine brotherly love and unity displayed by Northerners. Consider that though Wike backed Tambuwal against HE Atiku in 2019, the same Tambuwal has turned around to back HE Atiku against Wike in 2022. Northern solidarity! It is something that the South lacks. Tambuwal has shown that that Northern solidarity is thicker and stronger than financial solidarity".
Wike was a snake on Peter Obi. Yesterday, before the primary election of PDP, Tambuwal rose up and withdrew from the election and urged his followers to vote for Atiku but Woke would even prefer chasing his brothers away and forming ally with the north, for money. The south needs to learn solidarity not only in politics but in all aspects of life. Nwanne k' enyi!
